Team Kairon Culver City esports is a national championship award-winning esports team and club made up of CCHS students - we compete against other schools in CIF-sanctioned competitions in leagues like PLAYVS and VANTA - with opportunities to win scholarships, prizes, and more. Many games are available - we've found much success with Fortnite, Smash Bros Ultimate, and Valorant. High school esports builds more than gaming skills - it develops teamwork, resilience, communication, and confidence while giving students a sense of belonging to a larger community. Academically, it connects directly to STEM and digital media, sharpening focus, strategy, and time management. Esports keeps students engaged in school, opens doors to scholarships and careers, and turns passion into purpose - and gamers have been shown in many studies to be superior to their non-gaming peers in literacy, mathematics, problem-solving, hand-eye coordination, and salary. Esports is the most inclusive sport - giving students who may not otherwise have the chance to compete in physical athletics the chance to achieve and shine, earn scholarships, sponsorship, and more.
Team Kairon is run by Kian Darien - in the game and esports industry for decades - Coach Darien founded and runs the acclaimed Game Development Program at CCHS - having worked directly with top esports players and teams since the beginning of professional esports at Razer and Red Bull. The team meets in the marvelous Game Dev Dojo - at the Tech Center at CCHS - which is an Epic Mega Grants recipient - housing a museum of consoles, powerful gaming PCs, an arcade (furnished by Mr. Darien himself) and is sponsored by Sony Pictures Entertainment with massive televisions for events and matches. Students will meet here, practice, and compete with their teams against other schools - with the chance to travel to finals and compete in-person.
Varying games can happen at different times - meeting schedule TBD - but typically Wed and Fri after-school from 345 - 5:45
We recommend a $100 donation per student each semester - this covers league fees, equipment repairs, and the continuation of the program. GO TEAM KAIRON!
